SIMPLE WAYS TO KEEP YOUR CARPETS
CLEAN
Remove Loose
dust and grains using a carpet beater.
Wash your
carpet or scrub out tough stain.
Dry your carpet out in the sun.
1.Vacuum regularly, even if you don’t
think you need it: When
we walk over the carpet, the foreign particles are ground in and wear against
the carpet’s fibber’s, damaging it. By vacuuming often, you’ll remove these
substances and keep it looking fresh. This seems like a no-brainer, but something as simple as
vacuuming is the easiest and most effective way to keep your carpets clean.
2. Ditch the Shoes: A simple Google search shows all the
gross stuff shoes track into your home and on to your carpet: bacteria,
chemicals, dirt. Your carpet and rugs act like a magnet, collecting everything
you track in and transferring it all to your floor. Shoes can literally grind
in dirt, damaging carpet fibers and resulting in matting.
3. Steam clean the carpet
regularly: Our
carpets need a good washing every now and then like everything else. If you
don’t own a steam cleaner, many hardware stores will rent you one for the day.
If you have a lot of traffic in your home (or kids), it might be worth picking
one up. Instead of adding chemical cleaning agents, use a few tablespoons of Rockin’
Green and a gallon of water. Always vacuum first before washing.
4. Remove dents
with moisture and heat: If you move your furniture around, you’ll notice
some compressed spots. Usually these pop up on their own over time, but if you
want to get rid of them quickly, use moisture and heat. Rub a damp cloth over
the spot and spray it with a hair dryer for a few minutes and the fibers will
realign themselves.
5. Treat stains right away:
It’s inevitable that
you’re going to spill something on your carpet. Blot up the liquid with a towel
as quickly as you can. Do not rub it in; you’ll just make it harder to remove.
Mix a couple tablespoons of Rockin’ Green Active Wear Detergent with water in a
spray bottle, shake well, and apply to the stain. Continue to blot until the
stain is removed. Some liquids might require some specialty techniques.
6. Don’t pull out the
snags: Every so
often you’ll find a tuft of carpet fiber sticking up above the rest. This will
leave you with a bare spot that isn’t noticeable by itself, but over time can
give your carpet a spotted look. Use scissors to cut it off even with the
carpet.
